I can’t remember the last time I went to a lumberyard to buy wood for a project. Most of the material I use has already lived another life—fallen or pruned trees, discarded solid-wood furniture, and overlooked pieces gathered from friends, neighbors, and the streets around my Decatur studio. I have been known to pull over when an interesting woodpile catches my eye.

My interest in reclaimed materials began decades ago as a practical way to find supplies for creative experiments. Over time, it became something more: a way of seeing. I learned to recognize the potential in an unusual branch, a weathered board, or a piece of furniture that no longer served its original purpose.

I often begin with an idea, but the wood has ideas of its own. Its grain, color, shape, and imperfections influence the direction of the work, and the design evolves as I begin to cut, carve, and shape it. That conversation between intention and material is one of the things I enjoy most about making.

My work today is inspired by the clean lines, optimism, and expressive forms of mid-century design. I create small-scale functional and decorative objects that are meant to be held, used, and enjoyed—pieces that honor the history of their material while giving it a new form and purpose.
